Everyone knows head butting is banned in MMA but what about head clashes on takedowns. It seems to me an accidental head butt from a takedown should be handled just as one from the clinch or guard. Example that come to mind is Randy vs Gab. Gab's nose was broke from a head clash. Tito vs Elvis, seems like Elvis was KO'ed by the clash. Even the famous Rampage Arona fight. If Arona wasn't out from the slam the head clash would have put him out. It was hard to tell if he was out before their heads clashed. What are you guys thoughts. Is it an accidental head butt if your head collide during a takedown??

This probably falls under "protect yourself at all times" no foul. If the fighter can't continue... he's out, if the ring doctor stops it... go to the score cards. No one said
life is fair!

That fight definitly should have been stopped when his nose broke. Couture would have still won, but the point is that they prolonged the inevitable by letting that match continue

Sure can MMA Girl. Some of our self-defense training at Myer's is with head butts.

Pretty devastating, and the cuts would be bad. That's why it's not allowed.

Does anyone train to head butt and make it look unintentional... i would hope not.

Golden Rule should apply here.

I don't think any of the head butts mentioned so far was intentional but I sure you could train landing the head butt on a takedown. Things like that tend to get noticed if it happens ever often. Kinda like eye poking. I'm with Jeff. I sure would hate to think someone would resort to this. Then again, if there is a way to cheat someone will do it.

matches are ruled no contest if the head butt happens in the first round and go to the judges decission in the second round. or maybe the 3rd i can't remember. i don't see a difference in accidental head butts and heads "clashing" on takedowns. a head hitting a head is a head hitting a head. that sounded gay. guys heads clash on a throw slam takedown and one can not continue it should be a no contest or sent to the judges.

but head hitting even though it is an accident is against the rules. like hits below the belt. its like the cro cop kongo fight. cro cop got a knee to the grion should that have been stopped?
