NSAC to overturn Bisping/Hamill?!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In what could be an unprecedented move by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the decision that awarded Michael Bisping the victory over Mark Hamill on September 8th could be overturned and ruled as win for Hamill.
A tremendous outcry of disbelief over the Bisping/Hamill decision from fans across the world has seemed to shake the MMA world to its core and has caused the NSAC to begin an investigation into the controversial decision.
Numerous members of the MMA community have publically stated their thoughts on the fight. While most have exclaimed their disdain and disbelief at the decision victory for Bisping, pro kickboxing instructor and president of the UFC Dana White stated his position that you, "simply cannot leave the fight in the hands of the judges." Joe Rogan, the media-hyped spokesman for the UFC told the London Times that he "agreed with everything Dana White had to say on this subject. "Also," Rogan added, " UFC 76 will be an exciting night of fights and is available on pay per view this Saturday at the low price of $49.99"
Cecil Peoples, renown sensei and one of the three judges at ringside for the fight, reportedly has taken the interesting position that he has no independent recollection of the fight. "The period of time this fight occurred was the same period of time that other fights were occurring and I am not certain I was even present for this particular fight." Peoples was indeed actually present for the fight as evidenced by his 29-28 scorecard in favor of Bisping.
Michael Bisping's camp has recently challenged the NSAC's jurisdiction to change the fight decision based on the fact that the fight occurred in London, England and not Las Vegas. Representatives from Sherdog.com, the second leading MMA website on the internet behind mma.tv, attempted to contact the NSAC to obtain an official statement regarding the investigation but were informed that they lacked the requisite credentials to even enter the Athletic Commission's office. When contacted by this reporter, a representative for the NSAC stated, "This is the Nevada State Athletic Commission. We have jurisdiction over everyone and everything."
On September 25, 2007 the NSAC is scheduled to make an official statement regarding its investigation of the Bisping/Hamill fight. September 25 will be a busy day for the NSAC. Along with releasing a statement regarding the Bisping/Hamill fight, this will also be the day the NSAC attempts to permanently ban Nick Diaz from all MMA events based on Diaz' most recent citation for failing to completely stop at a stop sign. In addition, the NSAC will hear the appeal filed by Dustin "Klesko" Williams alleging an early stoppage in his fight against Greg "OZ1" Osbourne at the UG Grand Prix on September 8 in Cincinnati.
