Don't be afraid to tell Brandon Vera his October fight against Tim Sylvia sucked. He agrees with you.
Vera (8-1), who has five fights left on his current contract with the UFC, vowed to redeem himself inside the Octagon once his injured hand fully heals but not before. He said he was offered a fight in early March but indicated his doctor and manager did not believe he will be healthy enough to compete by then. Vera declined to name the opponent he was offered.
“There’s no way I can commit to that,” Vera said. “This week, I just started using my hand to pick up stuff like plates. I can cut steak now.”
Vera said he can see himself back in action as early as mid April. He plans to stay at heavyweight for the foreseeable future, even though UFC matchmaker Joe Silva approached him about possibly dropping to light heavyweight after his loss to Sylvia at UFC 77 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“I was like, ‘For what? I ain’t moving nowhere,’” Vera said. “Why the hell would I even think of moving [down]? I have a whole bunch of stuff to do still. I’ve got to beat Tim. I'm not going to let that one go. Our paths will cross again, I promise.”
