We are at the dawn of a new sport. How many people can say they were there when a sport first developed. It seems the UFC would like to monopolize MMA as much as possible. I understand this from a business point of view, but from a development perspective, is it bad for the sport?

The sport needs the UFC. Without the UFC there is no sport. The other orgs don't have the power to fill the shoes. KOTC or IFL going to step up and run the TUF deal with spike? The UFC has the resources and the money to make it happen.

At this point to reach out and get new fans and new fighters... the UFC is a monster of an advertisement vehicle.
It also shows that these are not just "Human Cockfights" as Senator McCain deemed them some years ago. These are true athletes who show more skill and heart than most sports.

Some will argue that MMA was already international before it became big in the US. That being said. I think the UFC is necessary for the development and acceptance of the sport here in North America

I'm not that much of a UFC fan. I used to love the Pride match ups. You just don't see that in the UFC. They have all the talent in the world but don't use it. Maybe I was spoiled by Pride. If the UFC wanted too, every PPV could be full of super matches.
