My name is Chris from Indiana I am thinking about training in MMA at Derby City Martial Arts. I been watching MMA for about a year or so and thought it was great so now that I'm 18 I thought I give it a go. I'm hoping it will get me in shape and maybe someday be able to fight in a match. There is one problem I am kinda out of shape and I'm only 5' 6" and almost 220 lbs. I was wondering if there is many fighters as short as me? What weight class should I go for?
By the way great site and forum.

welcome to the forum. enjoy
fighters are all shapes and sizes. if you do alot of training you will lose weight and after a while find a weight you are comfortable fighting at.

Hey buddy welcome to the site. I started training alot more getting alot more into it back in September I was roughly 215 at 6'0 tall now Im around 185 but, thats only because I want to fight at 170. One thing I also learned that may help you out is that dieting is just as important as exercising if you have the right diet the weight will fall off, especially at your age good luck bro.

Welcome aboard. Glad you like the site. If you decide to train at DCMMA I'm sure you will be well pleased. There are a lot of fighters your height. Jason "Y" (mma coach at DCMMA) is good at making sure you are ready to compete before he lets you get in the cage.
